Large Earthquake Rattles Mexico, Felt in San Diego

Posted July 26, 2022, under Blog

Residents of San Diego were awakened by a large earthquake early Monday morning.

The temblor was felt across the region, with reports of shaking coming from Lemon Grove, La Mesa, Chula Vista, Otay Ranch, Sorrento Valley, and Santee.

The epicenter of the quake was 9.9 miles west of Ensenada Mexico, which is roughly a 2-hour drive from the San Diego – California/Mexico border.

The 4.3 magnitude earthquake occurred at 4:21 AM. Luckily, there were no reports of injuries or damage to nearby buildings.

This earthquake highlights just how susceptible Southern California is to seismic activity. Southern California and Mexico share very similar terrain, which makes both regions more prone to higher magnitude quakes.

In fact, a 4.6 magnitude earthquake struck the Ridgecrest area of Kern County just last week. The same region that experienced the 6.4 magnitude earthquake back in 2019 – the most powerful quake California has experienced in the past 25 years.

If you own a home in California, it’s essential that you stay on top of all repairs and vigilant about earthquake preparedness.

Most older homes in California, especially those built before the 1950s, are lacking modern structural safeguards and reinforcements to protect the structure in the face of a large earthquake.

At Julian Construction, we’re foundation experts – and we’ll help you find the best solution for your seismic retrofitting needs and foundation problems.

No matter what your foundation situation is, we’ll conduct a (free) detailed home inspection, followed by an informative consultation, and at the end of our discussion we’ll provide you with a quote for repair.
