Experts Warn of Major Natural Disaster Coming to California, And It’s Not an Earthquake
According to researchers, there’s a massive natural disaster coming to California. No, it’s not an earthquake, it’s a colossal flood.
In a study published by Science Advances, experts are warning of a new weather system headed from the tropics to the western U.S. And this severe weather system could cause serious damage to Southern California’s major cities and wreak havoc on California’s infrastructure.
While California has been experiencing drought conditions for the last few years, experts say this megaflood would occur in the form of a monthlong storm, bringing feet (not inches) of rain to the entire state. No area in California would be safe from this.
Because of the warmer weather patterns California has been experiencing, this increases the chances for bigger sequence storms.
This wouldn’t be the first time California has experienced major flooding. The “Great Flood” of 1862 spanned 300 miles long and 60 miles across. While devastating to California’s landscape, the storm primarily affected regions that were sparsely inhabited.
However, if that flood were to happen today, it’s estimated that 5 to 10 million people could be displaced, with parts of the Central Valley and Los Angeles totally submerged.
The conditions that are increasing the chances of a storm like this hitting California are due to rising temps in our atmospheric ribbons. When these ribbons run warmer, the chances for more intense storms increase.
