Foundation Damage – The Warning Signs
The sooner you can identify foundation damage in your home, the more affordable the repairs will be.
When left unchecked and unrepaired foundation damage can worsen overtime which means any repairs associated with the damage will be more expensive and time consuming.
As a homeowner, here are a some of the warning signs you should keep an eye out for:
Cracks in bricks: If you’ve noticed cracks in the bricks on the exterior or interior of your home – especially cracks that are wider at the top of the wall and narrower at the bottom – these could be signs that your home is suffering from foundation damage.
Cracks in your floors: The same goes for the flooring around your home – if cracks have started to appear in the tiles or flooring of your home, this could be a sign that your home foundation is suffering from settlement issues.
Cracks in the corners of your walls: If you’ve noticed cracks in the siding of your home or cracks around doors and windows, this may be a sign that your home needs foundation repair.
Cracks in stucco: Cracks that appear to have a stair-like pattern in the stucco around your home may indicate there are larger foundation issues at play.
Gaps in doors or windows, or doors and windows that stick: If the doors and windows around you home have started to form gaps or started to stick, this can indicate there are structural issues with the property.
Issues with the garage door: If you’ve noticed gaps between the garage door and the ground, cracked bricks or walls that appear warped, these can all be signs that there are structural issues with the home and/or foundation.
If you have noticed any of the above issues, contact a foundation specialist – like Julian Construction – to get your home inspected for any foundation issues. Click here to schedule your free foundation inspection.
Older homes are much more susceptible to foundation issues. Many of these problems tend to arise when homes have hit the 10-year mark since being built. Soil, settlement, tree roots and plumbing leaks can all create foundation issues and weaken the structural integrity of the property.
Now, more than ever, it’s important to be proactive about earthquake preparation and safety.
